Sometimes Chrome will block the download of a plugin, saying the file is dangerous. The reason for this is the file contains a javascript file, which can contain malicious scripts.
You have two options for dowloading the file:
- Try the download in another browser: copy the download link and paste it into the location bar of another browser such as Firefox, Edge, or Safari.
- Temporarily suspend the safety preference. You can disable the safety controls in Chrome, which will allow the download.
Disabling the Safety Controls in Chrome
To temporarily disable the safety controls so you can download the plugin, follow these steps:
Open the Chrome Settings window. In the upper right corner of the browser window, find the 3 vertical dot icon and click it.
On the Settings menu that opens up, click on “Privacy and Security.” Then, in the Privacy and Security section, click on “More.” The setting you’re looking for is “Safe Browsing.”
Turn that off and you will be able to download the plugin. Remember to turn it back on when the download is complete (if you want…I do recommend it).
