Roland Barker has created this site as an outlet for his various activities. He lives with his wife and partner Lisa Parker on a small piece of land on the island of Kauai, Hawaii near the town of Kapa`a on the mauka side of the Sleeping Giant, otherwise known as Nonou Mountain.
He inherited this place from his grandparents who moved to Kauai in 1968 and called it "Lokelani Ranch" because it is on Lokelani Road and 'Lokelani' is a lovely Hawaiian word meaning 'red rose' and it got it's name from the wild roses that at one time grew there. This piece of land is situated in a residential area, but being a fairly large lot, it affords space for all kinds of plants and activities. At this time, Roland and Lisa are in the process of transforming the land into a kind of sanctuary, which has included the building of an outdoor guest, meditation and yoga space. Planted around the place are a wide variety of useful and beautiful plant species including bamboo, cacao, lychee, vanilla, papaya, banana, pineapple, canistel (also known as eggfruit), avocado, coconut, passion fruit (known locally as lilikoi), herbs such as mint, basil, thai basil, ginger, galangal, cardamom, cilantro, bay laurel, oregano, rosemary, lavender, mexican oregano and various trees such as ylang-ylang, Philippine cherry, suriname cherry, gliricidia, pigeon pea and various palms, as well as many types of flowers like heliconia, himalayan cadamom, ginger, antherium, orchids, birds-of-paradise and many others.
The guiding principles behind the agricultural activities on this land are Permaculture, organics and organic farming, biodynamics, mycoculture, and working with Nature Intelligences, also known as Nature Spirits, Elementals, and the like. Co-creating with Nature to create an energetic as well as agricultural balance. This is an ongoing process that requires the conscious inclusion of the unseen, energetic and conscious intelligence present in all forms of matter.
Some may scoff at such notions, but consider the arrogance of the position that we are the only form of conscious intelligence on the planet. That something can be unseen, yet active and essential is not grounds for implausibility. We must ask what constitutes proof that other forms of consciousness and sentient being do not exist? Equally impossible is formulating proof that they do exist because such a 'proof' must exist within the terms of our own kind of knowing, and are therefore not strictly applicable to other forms of sentience.
The resistance some people have to these ideas are largely cultural, stemming from cultural judgments about the sort of people that believe in these things. The 'new age' culture is often criticized and reviled, but these activities are primarily aimed at establishing a 'superior' cultural identity or point of view within the critic. This is scarcely what one would call a basis for an objective appraisal of the reality of such phenomena, and really only succeeds in being divisive and petty.
True intelligence involves a willingness to question judgments as little more than opinions based on personal preferences. To embrace the evolution of consciousness and the evolution of our species requires expansion beyond such arbitrary limits, a willingness to shed the contracted, ignorant and self-serving ego and embrace the larger intelligence of the divine self. The divine self is without judgment because it does not depend on any kind of form or circumstances for it's validity. It therefore sees no need to judge, as that would place a limit on the limitless-- an ultimately futile endeavor. Why waste energy in judgments that only create rancor and toxic thoughts? They ultimately serve no purpose other than to trap the spirit within the fearful container of the ego. Our judgments are really only the fears we hold and are unwilling to face, so we make them into some kind of unquestionable, universal truth. Judgments help the fragile and self-critical ego feel better about itself as it contemplates something more pathetic than itself. Every judgment made about another is ultimately only an externalized self-judgment. An honest appraisal of our judgments reveal this truth which in turn empowers us to forgive our grievances against the world.
Spirituality, metaphysics and mysticism are a central part of Roland and Lisa's lives and the lokelani rose is symbolic of the Divine Mary, one form of the archetype of the compassionate, healing Goddess also known as Tara, Kuan Yin, White Buffalo Woman, Hathor, and many others through time and place. In the Hawaiian language, words have many associated meanings and 'lani' means red or royal or divine, so the lokelani is also a divine or heavenly rose ('loke' means rose and is simply the Hawaiian way of pronouncing the English word). We have created this place as a home and also a place of sanctuary where the Divine in each is honored. Study, contemplation, meditation, listening to guidance, yoga, nutrition and herbal medicine are the tools and practices used to foster connection with the All-That-Is, God, the Divine. We have shed the "spiritual" strivings of the insecure ego by accepting our divinity and perfect union with God in the now.
Roland has created a spritual manifesto published on the Web entitiled "A Call to Lucid Dreamers of the World" found at http://god-is.info. This manifesto is a catalytic statement of our essential identity with God as the scion of God. It is a declaration of freedom from the illusory limitations of egoic, physical existence that seem to be so real.
